Apple iOS6 |
Technology giant Apple unveiled
its new mobile operating system, iOS 6, at the 23rd annual developers’
conference WWDC (World Wide Developers Conference) in San Francisco. The
new OS will be available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users as a free
software update, in September this year.
One of the interesting
features in iOS 6 is the new ‘Apple Maps’ in place of Google maps. The
new Maps feature comes with voice navigation, real time traffic update
and a feature called Flyover, that would provide photo-realistic
interactive 3D views of places.
Apple has also integrated Facebook
to the iOS 6. Users can post directly from Notification Center, Siri
and Facebook-enabled apps like Photos, Safari and Maps, and Shared Photo
Streams via iCloud.
There is also a new app called ‘Passbook’
allows users to store all their passes, including boarding passes,
tickets, store passes etc. in one place. For instance, users can store
event tickets bought online in the app and, and when they arrive at the
place, their phone’s GPS would sense that they’ve arrived, and load
their ticket to the lock screen automatically.
“iOS 6 continues
the rapid pace of innovation that is helping Apple reinvent the phone
and create the iPad category, delivering the best mobile experience
available on any device. We can’t wait for hundreds of millions of iOS
users to experience the incredible new features in iOS 6 including the
new Maps app, expanded Siri support, deep Facebook integration, Shared
Photo Streams and the innovative new Passbook app,” said Scott Forstall,
Apple’s senior vice-president of iOS Software, during the launch of
iOS6.
In addition to the new mobile operating Apple also unveiled a
new version of its Mac operating system, Mountain Lion, will go on sale
next month for $20.

MacBook Pro and MacBook Air range of notebook computers with the launch
of new models. The new MacBook Air will come with the latest Intelcore
processors, faster graphics and flash storage making it twice as fast as
the previous generation devices. The updated MacBook Pro will have high
